Frequently asked questions

What is Christ Church’s Giving Day?

Our Giving Day is a 36-hour event for our community—of alumni, fellows, students, staff, friends, and family—to come together and raise money for a Refugee Academic Futures Scholarship. With thousands of pounds to unlock in matched and challenge funding, it’s an event like no other, and any gifts you make on Giving Day will go even further than usual.

The Giving Day will take place on November 29th – 30th, and we hope you’ll join the Christ Church community in making Giving Day 2022 a huge success.

What difference will my donation make?

Your gift will go directly to funding a Refugee Academic Futures Scholarship (RAFS). This graduate scholarship will fully fund a DPhil place and stipend for a student who has been displaced due to conflict, persecution, or other serious human rights violations or deprivations. The scholarship will cover all course fees, and will provide the recipient a grant for living costs at the UKRI rate of at least £17,668 per year. Any additional funds raised will go to supporting the living costs of additional Christ Church graduate scholars.

Donations of all sizes will have an immense cumulative impact and, thanks to the generosity of our match funders, every pound you donate will go even further. If you are interested in becoming a Match Funder to support the scholarship – a role which is vital for encouraging others to donate, and especially our young alumni – please email olivia.tan@chch.ox.ac.uk

How can I give my gift?

By phone (+44 01865 286325), by mail (Development Office, St Aldate's, Oxford OX1 1DP) or by using this website.

Can I claim Gift Aid on this donation?

Yes! If you are a UK taxpayer and have paid as much Income Tax and/or Capital Gains tax as the amount of Gift Aid claimed on all of your donations in that tax year, Christ Church can reclaim the basic tax rate (25%) on your gift, with no extra cost to you. So, for example, your donation of £100 will be worth £125

If you are a higher rate taxpayer, you can also benefit by obtaining relief for the donation on your tax return. Your basic rate band is extended by the gross charitable donation and therefore increases the proportion of your income taxed at lower rates. For example, if a higher rate taxpayer (40%) donates £100 to charity, their basic rate band is extended by £125.

Please note that we will share relevant and necessary data with HM Revenue and Customs to enable us to reclaim the Gift Aid on your donation.

Donations from companies are not eligible for Gift Aid. However, the company can treat the gift as an allowable expense, making a saving on corporation tax.

Are my donations from the United States tax efficient?

Yes! Contributions made from United States residents on the Giving Day website, which uses Stripe US, are tax deductible.

Is my payment secure?

Yes. All payments through the chchgivingday.hubbub.net website will be securely processed by Stripe www.stripe.com/gb/privacy and Stripe US www.stripe.com/en-US/privacy.
